Nigeria Final Year Nursing Student Gang-raped, Dies From Injuries Sustained

A 300-level student of College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo, Mercy Victor, on Tuesday died of injuries she sustained after she was gang-raped by suspected hoodlums on Sunday, the Punch Newspaper is reporting.

Meanwhile the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Missal, was reported to have confirmed the development on the telephone on Tuesday.

David Missal said the matter was reported to the police on Tuesday and was referred to the GRA Police Station in Jalingo for further investigation.

The President of the National Union of Taraba State Students, Hope Vyonku, was quoted by Punch as saying that the lady ran into the hands of the “evil men” on her way to school on Sunday while returning from weekend at home.
“I was told that she was returning to the school in a tricycle that she boarded when the incident happened close to the bridge after the State Specialist Hospital, Jalingo.
“She was reportedly gang-raped and abandoned by the roadside, before a passerby rushed her to the State Specialist Hospital where she died on Tuesday,” he said.
Vyonku called on the authorities of the school to put in a place adequate security measures to ensure the safety of students.
